Stop Looking for Easy
I was scrolling through my phone recently and came across a video from late last year—me sparring with my oldest son.
It was right after I turned 50. He was still home then, not yet deployed with the Army. That day, he needed a sparring partner… and I stepped in.
Now, let me be clear: I’m not a boxer.
Truth is, I’ve already cracked my ribs before, and he’s a body puncher, so I had the body guard on for good reason.
But he needed someone in the ring, and I took up the challenge.
Watching that clip again got me thinking.
Growth never comes from staying comfortable.
We chase ease in so many areas of life—business, health, relationships—but it’s the hard things that shape us.
The things most worth having in life require work.
They require going through things that are not easy.
When life is too easy, there’s no resistance. No pressure. No growth.
And when we expect it to be easy, the hard stuff hits even harder.
So stop looking for easy.
If you want to grow, go find something hard—and step into it.
Even when you’re outmatched. Even when it hurts a little.
Because growth lives on the other side of challenge.
That day in the ring reminded me of that.
Sometimes you suit up, not because you’re ready, but because it matters.
