Think and Grow Rich. Get Emotional… Go Broke.Think and Grow Rich. Get Emotional… Go Broke.

Most people don’t have a strategy problem.

They have an emotional control problem.

And it shows up in the exact moments that matter most—

when money is on the line, when pressure is high, and when decisions need to be made.

That’s where deals are won… or lost.

The Real Problem Isn’t the Deal

I’ve seen it over and over again

Someone looks at a deal and says:

“It doesn’t feel right”

“I’m nervous about it”

“I just don’t know…”

And sometimes those instincts are valid. But a lot of times?

They’re not rooted in logic.

They’re rooted in emotion.

Fear.

Uncertainty.

Past experiences.

Overwhelm.

And here’s the reality:

👉 Emotion doesn’t analyze deals

👉 Emotion doesn’t measure risk

👉 Emotion doesn’t build wealth

Emotion reacts.

I Almost Made This Mistake Myself

Recently, I found myself in this exact situation on a large real estate deal.

We had just closed on a large land syndication deal, and another (very similar) opportunity came up right after we closed on this, very close to the other property that we had just completed a $2.4m syndication/raise on from our investors.

On paper, it looked strong—but I didn’t feel good about it.

There were concerns. There was some conflict. I even questioned whether it aligned with my values.

My immediate reaction?

“No. I can’t do this.”

That wasn’t logic talking. That was emotion.

And then my partner said something simple that changed everything:

“Just think about it.”

The Shift That Changes Everything

So I stepped back.

Not to force a decision… but to slow down and get out of the emotional state.

And I asked myself a different set of questions:

Is this a good deal?

Is this a safe deal?

Does this make sense for our investors?

Do we have a solid plan?

Do we have a backup plan?

Is this in a strong area?

One by one…

✅ Check.

✅ Check.

✅ Check.

Nothing had changed about the deal.

The only thing that changed… was my state of mind.

Emotion vs. Logic

Here’s what most people don’t realize:

When you’re emotional, you tend to do one of two things:

  1. You act too fast

You push forward without thinking, just to relieve the pressure.

        2. You freeze and miss opportunities

You avoid the decision entirely, even when you should move forward.

Both are dangerous.

Both cost money.

Both keep people stuck.

The Wealth-Building Mindset

There’s a reason the book isn’t called:

“Get Emotional and Go Rich.”

It’s called Think and Grow Rich.

That’s not just a catchy title—it’s a principle.

Wealth is built through:

  • Clear thinking
  • Logical analysis
  • Disciplined decision-making

Not reactions. Not feelings. Not impulse.

The Simple Framework

When you feel yourself getting emotional in a deal, don’t ignore it—but don’t let it lead.

Instead, do this:

1. Pause

Recognize you’re in an emotional state.

2. Step back

Give yourself space—don’t decide in the moment.

3. Shift to logic

Ask objective, measurable questions.

4. Evaluate the facts

Not how you feel… what’s actually true.

5. Then decide

From a place of clarity, not pressure.

Final Thought

If you’re making financial decisions based on how you feel…

you’re putting yourself at risk.

This is especially true in real estate and investing, where the stakes are high and the variables are real.

The people who win long-term aren’t the most emotional.

They’re the most disciplined in how they think.

👉 Think and grow rich.

👉 Get emotional… go broke.
